A lot of comic creators are either story-tellers OR artists, you however, are both. Where does that passion come from?

My grandad and my dad were both photographers and great storytellers. My dad also made films. So early on I was interested in how images could tell stories. And comic books were my favorite form. I tried to focus on one aspect for a career and that was inking, but now that I’ve acquired some knowledge and experience I want to branch out creatively. Luckily, I have collaborators like artist Dean Kotz to work with.

You’ve worked for some of the major comic publishers as well as put out your own material. What is your favorite part of each process?

Working for the bigger publications can be fun if you get to work with legendary characters, but working on your own projects allows you much more control over your creative direction, and you get to choose what creators you work with.

As a creator, you’re surely inspired by people in the same fields. Who are some of your favorite artists and writers?

I know it’s a pretty standard reply in our field, but Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko each take up a big part of my inspiration pool. But so do Chris Claremont, the Simonsons, Silvestri, Blevins, and Ann Nocenti for sure.

Do you have a dream character that you would love to work on, as a writer or as an artist?

Aside from my own creations, I always wanted to do a Madman or Rocketeer story. But those characters have great creators already, so I’ll focus on Gods and Gears!

Do you have any new projects in the works, so that we and our readers can watch out for them?

We will be running an Indiegogo campaign for a Gods and Gears tie-in story, featuring a new character- Hammerella! Follow us at @ryanwinn and @deankotz to stay up to date and see great art!

From all of us at Collector’s Maze, we greatly appreciate the time you’ve given to let us get to know you better, and for our readers to do the same! Or for those who don’t know you, it’s a proper introduction to a truly great creator!

Thanks for the fun questions, Jesse!
